The
Ministry of Urban Development (MoUD) requested National
Institute of Urban Affairs (NIUA) to organise a review
meeting of various stakeholders of the PEARL Program.
“Peer
Experience and Reflective Learning” (PEARL) is an
initiative under JNNURM to support cities to actively
pursue activities for cross learning and sharing best
practices in implementation of projects and reforms. For
this purpose, the cities have been divided into five
groups, namely,
The
meeting was chaired by Mr. A.K.Mehta, Joint Secretary,
MoUD, the participants included representatives from NIUA,
Technical Cell JNNURM, CEPT, RCVPN Academy, CMA-MP, Mega
City Association (MCA), UAA and AIILSG. Various knowledge
managers of different groups made presentations
highlighting their efforts, potentials and constraints.
Heritage cities and Mega cities group have made
substantial progress as compared to the mixed economy,
industry and environmental sensitive city groups.
Mr.
A.K.Mehta responded to the various issues raised by the
knowledge managers. He mentioned that there is a need to
sustain PEARL beyond JNNURM. He added that this is a huge
opportunity to fill the knowledge gap. Mr. Mehta also
suggested that there is a need for mid course correction
for groups which are lagging behind. It is expected that
PEARL activity will be operational very soon.
