NIUA Signs Statement of Work
with CISCO for Capacity Building in Successful
Implementation of PEARL under JNNURM
NIUA and the Internet
Business Solutions Group, CISCO systems Inc. signed a
Statement of Work on 9 February 2009 for capacity building
in successful implementation of PEARL under JNNURM.
Mr. Martin Stewart Weeks,
Director, Public Sector (Asia-Pacific), Internet Business
Solutions Group, Cisco and Mr. Prakash Kumar, Director,
IBSG, CISCO Systems, India, graced the meeting. Prof. Chetan Vaidya,
Director, NIUA welcomed the participants and stated that
this event is very important for the Institute. NIUA has
been working for preparing the website "India Urban
Portal" for PEARL under JNNURM. It has also been
designated the National Coordinator for PEARL programme
under JNNURM, which aims to create a knowledge sharing
platform for urban reforms and projects. Prof. Vijay
Dhar,
will be coordinating this activity on behalf of NIUA.
This
Collaborative Platform will have following objectives:

To broaden knowledge
beyond one's immediate experience through exchange of
ideas with those who share the same challenges;

To
remain update on municipal government issues through this
forum; and

To share ideas and best practices.
The
benefits visualized under this Institutional partnership
are:

Anticipated cost savings through the transfer of
best practices and sharing of expertise among
municipalities

Better decision making as a result of
advice obtained from colleagues in other municipalities
